Max Dashú is a founding mother of the Goddess resurgence. For four decades, she has used images to teach women’s global history and heritages. Her legendary slideshows bring to light the women of power that have been hidden away from us, from ancient figurines to female leaders, culture-makers, medicine women, and female rebels.
Max founded the Suppressed Histories Archives in 1970 to research mother-right, female spheres of power, Goddess reverence and shamanic arts—as well as patriarchy, racism, and the history of domination. Drawing on her massive collection of over 30,000 images, she has created 150 visual talks and presented them at universities, women’s centers, bookstores, conferences, festivals, libraries, prisons, museums, schools, and temples. Her articles have been published in Goddesses in World Culture, Feminist Theology, She Is Everywhere!, Womanspirit, Goddessing Regenerated, Daughters of the Moon Tarot, WeMoon, and elsewhere.
Dashu has just released her new double dvd Woman Shaman: the Ancients, following her acclaimed video Women’s Power in Global Perspective. Her poster series on sacred female icons, rock art, and breastpots shows the global continuities between little-known archaeological and historic sculptures. Her Suppressed Histories blog on Facebook has over 17,000 followers, and is a rich Goddess resource.
